Hello!

Welcome to the demo for the mathematics placement test. As this test is a diagnostic evaluation tool for determining your skill level in mathematics, you may not access the actual test. However, the following demonstration should give you a brief snapshot of how the test works.

  1. First, slide your pointer over the different parts of the image to get an excellent overview of the various features.
  2. Then, remember to read the text below the image as it provides important information and answers to the most frequently asked questions.

Test Structure
The test is made up of multiple-choice questions only.

It is divided into four main sections:
1. Arithmetic
2. Algebra I - Geometry - Statistics
3. Algebra II – Straight Lines II
4. Logic, Set Theory and Relations

As you can see, sections 2 and 3 include subsections.

Duration
Depending on your answers, you will need between 1 and 3 hours to complete the test.

The more knowledgeable you are, the longer the test will be, as it is programmed to adjust to your level. For example, if you don't answer a minimum of questions correctly in Section 1, the questions in Section 2 will not display, and so on.

Note that you can stop the test at any time and resume it later, where you left off.

Results
The test will be corrected automatically. You will obtain your results as soon as you have completed the test.
Why take the test?
  • To determine your level with respect to the Secondary I to IV mathematics courses in the Québec adult education program.
  • To get an overview of what you know and don't know.
  • To be able to enroll in the appropriate courses.
Who can take the test?
If the reasons for taking the test are strictly personal, anyone can take it.

Will my result be stored somewhere?
Your result will be kept for two years in your personal record on the eduSOFAD website. You may consult your result at any time and send it to any school that accepts the results of online tests.
Can I take the same test more than once?
One whole year must pass before you can re-do a test you've already taken.
How can I make sure my computer is correctly configured for this test?
The test works on a Mac or a PC with any recent browser. You must also have a personal email address and a recent version of the Flash plug-in. The download links are provided in the test. If you wish, you can check the configuration of your computer using our System Check page.
